A showcase of the regions young musicians
The SYIA was launched in 2011 to create a regional competition for new and aspiring musicians.
In addition to the prestige of winning an award in one of the instrument categories, young musicians benefit from competition and the potential to perform on the big stage in a gala concert at Eastbank in September.
The 2016 Shepparton Young Instrumentalists Award were a huge success and gave many students an opportunity for their talents to be recognized at a community level.
In 2018 there are two components to the competition weekend. On Saturday the 23rd we will be hosting a Brass and Woodwind masterclass. On Sunday the 23rd Sectional Competitions will be held at Eastbank.
At the conclusion of the competition our top performers from the Under 16 and Under 19 instrumental sections will perform at a Gala Concert on the afternoon of Sunday 24 September. The winner of the Gala Performance will be awarded the title "Regional Young Musician of the Year" for 2018. The winner will take home the perpetual trophy, a cash prize and further performance opportunities in 2018.
Top Talent at the Gala Concert
The winners of each category are invited to perform at our Instrumental Gala Concert, and compete for the top prizes of first second and third overall.
This is a wonderful opportunity to see a range of performances and instruments from the competition over the previous two days.
First prize will win $500 and a performance with Goulburn Valley Concert Orchestra.
Second Prize wins $300 and a performance with Turaton Choir.
Third prize wins $250 and a performance with Shepparton Brass and Wind.
